This poster is one of a collection saved by a railwayman who worked at Carlisle station from the 1940s to the 1960s. The poster was never used and is in the same condition as originally received at the station for display.

Frederick Halford Coventry was born in New Zealand, studying at Art School in Auckland, Wellington, and Sydney, Australia. In 1929 he moved to London. He was a versatile artist, muralist, stained glass artist, glass painter & etcher, printmaker, poster-designer, art teacher, book-illustrator and designer, and lacquer and gesso work, notably on the famous ocean liner RMS Caronia. He also produced commercial artwork work for many important clients, including ShellMex, BP, GPO, Egyptian State Railways and many others.
