Artist - Tom Purvis (1888-1959).
Description - A classic image for a railway poster, from a master poster artist. Wide sandy beaches and donkey rides were big attractions for families with children. The poster depicts a family fully enjoying their visit, with the younger child in jockey-mode on the donkey and the elder child running behind using the donkey's tail for support, with bucket and spade in hand. The LNER logo shown was used between 1924 and 1928. A rare poster.

Size - Quad Royal (approx 50 x 40in or 127 x 102cm) plus linen trimmed very close to border.

Repairs to small edge tears and to paper-loss replacements along the bottom edge and to the bottom right corner section. We have used watercolour pencils to touch up and improve the previous restoration work. More detailed photos are available on request if required.
More About The Artist:
Tom Purvis was born in Bristol, and was one of the most famous poster artists. A lot of his work involved bold two-dimensional blocks of colour, including some series for the LNER which are rightly famous. He produced a lot of posters, mainly for the LNER, but also for Austin Reed. He produced very few London Transport posters, which all appear to be stock poster designs with wording added in a box. After the war he moved on to paint portraits and religious pictures.
