Title - River Findhorn - Near Forres - See Scotland By Train.
Location - Forres, Morayshire, Scotland.
Artist - Jack Merriott (1901-1968).
Description - With a sub-title of "On the route from Aberdeen to Inverness" the artwork gives a hint to the generally lowland scenery along the route and shows one of the diesel trains in use at the time and a fisherman trying his luck in a great salmon river. The view is roughly from the A96 bridge to the west of the town of Forres where the River Findhorn and the railway run close together, although the area is more heavily wooded nowadays. In the far distance past the rooftops of Forres, near the top of the hill, is Nelson's Tower. The tower was built in the 19th century to celebrate victory at Trafalgar, and provides wonderful views.
