Description - A series of vignettes showing a variety of towns, cities and scenery through Holland and Germany along the River Rhine (Rotterdam, Eindhoven, Cologne, Bonn, Coblence, Mayence, Manheim Carlsruhe, Freiburg and Bale) and showing the railways linking them, and used by the named express trains. At the top is the ferry crossing from Harwich to Hook of Holland. This example came from the family of the artist, having been stored since the original commission.

More About The Artist:
John Anthony Greene was born in Steyning, Sussex. He studied at Brighton Art School and won a scholarship to the Royal College of Art. He lectured at the Architectural Association and had a long career as a designer/artist, often calling on his wife Margaret to add the human figures if his landscapes required them. He produced commissions for ICI, the Post Office, the British Transport Commission and British Railways among others.
