Title - Diesel Trains - Faster Cleaner More Comfortable - Bury Bacup and Intermediate Stations.
Location - Lancashire, England.
Artist - Barber.
Description - The 1950s efforts to fight the threat of road transport included cost-saving changes on branch lines, including the introduction of diesel multiple units to replace steam. This poster uses an attractive "Stock" image of a new DMU in action. British Railways would have had a large number of these posters printed with just the image, and then they would have been run through the printers again to add whatever wording was required at the time. In this case the same poster image was reused for various modernisation changes over a number of years.
The new trains were introduced between Bury Bolton St and Bacup in Feb 1956, with Rawtenstall to Bury closed in 1966. The part of the route between Bury and Rawtenstall is in use today as the heritage East Lancashire Railway.
