Title - Ullswater - English Lake-Land - Rail, Motor, Steamer Day Tours From This Station.
Location - Penrith, Keswick, Westmorland/Cumberland/Cumbria, England.
Artist - Austin Cooper (1890-1964).
Description - Ullswater, the lovely long and narrow lake in the centre of the Lake District was very heavily used in advertising by the LMS and LNER. Cooper uses two white sails on the lake to attract attention to the middle distance, nicely framed by the foreground tree. He uses shades of blue and mauve to depict the background hills and lake in minimalist terms. Bright colours are used to suggest low sunlight highlighting the tree and nearside rocks and grassland.
