Title - Western Region Modernisation – Spotlight on Margam.
Location - Margam, Port Talbot, Wales.
Artist - Photographic
Description - The 1950s Modernisation Scheme was a huge undertaking for the whole railway system, and a variety of posters were produced to show the public some of the changes which were taking place around them. This poster combines photographs of aspects of the site and a detailed track plan with some basic explanation.
At the time of the poster, 1960, this was the peak of international modernity in freight handling and Margam was the first fully automatic hump-yard system in Britain, situated next to Port Talbot steelworks.
