Description - A peaceful view of the village of Kippford on the Urr Water, with yachts and rowing boats in the quiet river. The view is from the river bank, with the heavily wooded Mark Hill above the village. In the distance the river opens into the Solway Firth. The view is very similar today, with most of the buildings being recognisable.

Charles Oppenheimer was born in Manchester in 1875, attended the Manchester School of Art, and fought on the Western Front. He lived in Kirkcudbright for over 50 years. He painted many local scenes, including a few for British Railways.
