Description - A wonderful London Transport pre-war poster depicting the silhouette of the western end of Westminster Abbey, viewed across Parliament Square, with two of the earliest statues shown standing on grass, before the area was paved. In the foreground is Edward Stanley, 14th Earl of Derby, former Prime Minister, made of bronze it stands on a granite base. Behind him is Benjamin Disraeli, cast in bronze it stands on a red granite plinth. This is one of a pair of London posters Tripp produced, the other being for the Houses of Parliament. We currently have both available to buy.

About the Artist:
Herbert Alker Tripp was a senior police officer as well as a successful painter, poster artist, writer and illustrator. He designed posters for London Transport, the GWR and SR during the 1930s. He was Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police from 1932-1947. In 1942 he joined the Royal Academy's Planning Committee to work on a scheme for London's postwar architectural reconstruction.
