Title - Sweet Rothesay Bay LMS.
Location - Rothesay, Isle of Bute, Argyll & Bute, Buteshire, Scotland.
Artist - Anon.
Description - A lovely early 1920s unsigned and slightly stretched depiction of the quayside at Rothesay and the coast round to Ardbeg and the entrance to Loch Striven, viewed from Battery Place. The general layout hasn't really changed in over a century, with the small harbour behind the quay, and the Winter Gardens along the front. Rothesay Bay is very busy with yachts and a number of paddle-steamers and other boats involved in people Clyde cruising, 'Doon the watter'.
Year Published - c1923
Size - Quad Royal (approx 50 x 40in or 127 x 101.5cm) plus linen border.

Extra note: The title area shows ghosting of what appears to be a slightly out of line 'SOUTHEND-ON-SEA'. This is an unusual sight and has led us to have some thoughts as follows: The printing company had produced many posters in previous years in this style for the Caledonian railway, but to their own standard sizes. The printers went into liquidation in 1924. Could it be that they had to sub-contract out their LMS work because their setup couldn't produce the LMS standard sizes. We have found an early 1920s Southend poster with the wording in the right place produced by McCorquodale printers, so could it be re-using a misprinted sheet of paper. Any other ideas are welcome!
