Description - Pears has painted a view northeastwards from the gates of Bishop's Palace Garden across to the Palace buildings covered in the autumn colours of creepers. Behind the Palace is the cathedral with it's tall narrow spire which can be seen for miles across the meadows and even from the sea. The cathedral is a wonderful mix of Norman and Gothic.

Minor creasing, small edge tears at bottom edge with acid-free tape on rear, a little minor foxing, slight colour shift along left margin. More detailed photos available on request.
More About The Artist:
Charles Pears was born in Pontefract, Yorkshire in 1873. He was an official War Artist during both World Wars, and exhibited frequently between the wars. He is best known as a marine painter, and most of his poster work has a marine theme. He was quite prolific for London Underground and all the main-line railway companies, as well as the Empire Marketing Board.
