Clacton-on-Sea - Fryer Summary

Title - Clacton-on-Sea - Day Excursions.
- Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, England.
- Wilfred Moody Fryer (1891-1968).

- This "Stock" poster used a seafront image by Wilfred Fryer, showing the flower gardens, beach huts, beach and the famous pier complete with landmark "Steel Stella" rollercoaster (which burnt down in 1973) and helter skelter. British Railways would have had a large number of these posters printed with just the image, and then they would have been run through the printers again to add whatever wording was required at the time. This way one poster image could be reused many times and for many events over a number of years.
This particular example was used for Day Excursions in the early to mid 1960s from local stations across Suffolk and northern Essex on the Stour Valley Line, which was soon to be closed with the Beeching Axe in March 1967.
