- Harrogate was always know for its floral displays, and this poster uses a scene with flower beds and shops with awnings to emphasise the refined attractions of the Yorkshire Spa town. It has always been an elegant town, where pleasant walks were central to the healthy Spa life. At the bottom is a suggestion to potential passengers to acquire a free guide book before their visit. Kenneth Steel was born in Sheffield, and studied at Sheffield College of Art.
He was a painter in oils and watercolour, and a printmaker and engraver. He produced a large number of railway posters and carriage prints for British Railways.
