Description
- Central to the town of Hexham is the imposing Hexham Abbey, largely re-built in the early 20th century. It is on the site of the original Abbey, and is shown with a busy market taking place in the square outside, and the hills rising behind it in this westerly view. There is also a small depiction of a "new" first generation DMU at the bottom right, which would have been the new trains introduced on the north trans-pennine line.

Grade: B+, conservation-backed on linen.
Backed on thick linen as acquired, repaired tear at top, small area at right hand side not entirely stuck down, but does not detract. More detailed photos are available on request if required.

More About The Artist:
Dennis Flanders was born in Walthamstow, London. He was a gifted child artist, studied at art schools, and worked in various jobs before the war. He later became a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy and other galleries. He produced work for the Illustrated London News, and specialised in landscape and architecture. We are not aware of any other posters which he produced.
