Description - Warm autumn colours and lots of well dressed walkers, in one of a series of posters painted by John Mace for the LMS of scenes around the Lake District. South of Keswick, Ashness Bridge is an old packhorse bridge near the eastern shore of Derwentwater. It gives great views across the lake towards Skiddaw. Walking and Hiking were very popular pastimes in the 1920s and 30s.

John Edmund Mace was a London-based marine and landscape artist. He was an Official War Artist in France from 1918-19. He was exhibited at the Royal Academy and other important institutions. He produced artwork for a small number of railway company posters.
