Description - A post-war updating of a 1938 poster by the Southern Railway, painted by Kerry Lee. It is a pictorial map of central London, with a very decorative border. It shows prominent landmarks with lots of captions and humorous cartoons peopled with local and historical characters, tourists and immigrants. All the British Railways stations are also prominently shown. The border consists of cartoon illustrations of people from all the London boroughs with shields showing the coats of arms of each. At the bottom is an illustration of the royal procession at the State Opening of Parliament, with the royal carriage.

Grade: B+, we have had this poster conservation-backed on linen. For more details of the process please see the "Conservation" page of this website.
Prior to linen backing the poster had worn folds, edge tears and was rather creased. There is still some discolouration at the top edge from some old staining. More detailed photos are available on request if required.
