London - Blake Summary

Title - London - Excursions via Marks Tey.
- Frederick Donald Blake (1908-1997).

- This "Stock" poster used a fine view across London's Parliament Square with Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey in the background. There are also a lot of red buses and possibly a Mark2 Jaguar in the foreground. British Railways would have had a large number of these posters printed with just the image, and then they would have been run through the printers again to add whatever wording was required at the time. This way one poster image could be reused many times and for many events over a number of years.
This particular example was used for Day Excursions to London in 1964 and 1965 from local stations across Suffolk and northern Essex on the Stour Valley Line, which was soon to be closed with the Beeching Axe in March 1967.
