Description - A beautiful poster of Plymouth on the south coast of Devon, advertising it as a 'Delightful Centre for Holidays'. The high-level view is from Plymouth Hoe which overlooks Tinside Lido (built in 1935, and restored in recent years) and Drake's Island. The scene is obviously a sunny day out-of-season as the area is quite peaceful, although there are still various water-based activities to be seen below us and some yachts on Plymouth Sound.

Frank Sherwin was a marine & landscape painter in oil & watercolour and a poster designer. He was born in Derby in 1896, the son of a painter.
He served in WW2 as a camouflage advisor around East Anglian airfields, and achieved a prolific output of art for the railways with posters for GWR, LMS, LNER & BR.
