Condition Grade and Condition Report:
Grade: B-, conservation-backed on linen.
We have had this poster professionally and sensitively restored in London, as it had some quite serious faults, involving losses to corners, major tears and some minor losses within the image along the central fold. There is still a little discolouration visible along this fold. The work that was required consisted of repairing and reinstating the paper loss with associated water-based painting-in of the missing artwork. The result is a great improvement on it's previous condition and the poster is now very presentable, while still showing evidence of the wear and tear of age. It is backed onto Linen with a 2cm linen border left on to prevent future damage to the poster-edge and make future framing easier. The poster is now in excellent restored condition and ready for framing. The restorers would recommend Conservation Framing, as old paper has the same requirements as other valuable collectables. The work did NOT involve re-painting or airbrushing, and the work is entirely reversible if ever required, meaning that the poster could be re-backed in the future should any accidents or problems ever occur. Photos available on request showing the condition before the restoration, as well as current ones.
