Artist - Frank Sherwin (1896-1986).
Description - A warm afternoon view along the beach towards the bandstand and "New Pavilion", with the promenade behind the sea-wall. Redcar was very popular for day trips from the industrial areas of Teeside from Victorian times, and the beach is part of miles of unbroken sand.

Frank Sherwin was a marine & landscape painter in oil & watercolour and a poster designer. He was born in Derby in 1896, the son of a painter.
He served in WW2 as a camouflage advisor around East Anglian airfields, and achieved a prolific output of art for the railways with posters for GWR, LMS, LNER & BR.
