Artist - Jack Merriott (1901-1968).
Description - A wonderfully detailed painting of the fish dock, with a laden fishing trawler being unloaded onto the quayside. It was a very noisy place and a hive of activity as can be seen. The area was designated a Conservation Area in 1990, lying derelict ever since, but finally in 2026 some interest is being taken by the authorities as to it's future.

Condition Grade and Condition Report:
Grade: B+/B, un-conserved.
Repair tape on rear of worn folds, some still rather creased, edge wear and tears, tape stain bottom left corner. 'SM Thornton Jnc' on rear in crayon. Brown grease spot near bottom edge. All a bit browned, adding to the warm hues. Watercolour pencil touch-ups to fold wear and tape stain, poster now displays well. Close-up photos available on request.

Jack Merriott was a landscape and portrait painter, who used both oil and watercolour media. He lectured widely, wrote and illustrated related books, and was vice president of the RI. He produced artwork for quite a number of railway posters.
