- Captain Cook and two other officers are seen studying a map on the quayside at Whitby with St Mary's Chruch and Whitby Abbey on the hill above the town to the right and many ships in the harbour. As the poster states, Cook's world voyages were in ships built in Whitby.

More About The Artist:
Doris Zinkeisen was a Scottish theatrical stage and costume designer, painter, commercial artist and writer. She was born in Argyll, Scotland and moved south near London in 1909. She produced a number of posters for various railway companies in the 1930s, often featuring historical themes.
She exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1929 and the Royal Society of Portrait Painters in London, and also in Paris and the United States.
She was a successful stage and costume designer for plays and films, and despite her success as a painter and commercial artist she was best known as a theatrical designer.
