Title - Whitemoor Marshalling Yard - A Vital Link In The System - A Focal Point Between East England And The North.
Location - Whitemoor, March, Cambridgeshire, England.
Artist - Frederick Donald Blake (1908-1997).
Description - This early 1950s poster pre-dates the Modernisation Scheme, with the line "Busiest Railway System In The World" at the bottom suggesting that it was aimed at business owners with potential freight traffic. Whitemoor Yard was sited next to the town of March, on a main freight artery, between Ely and Spalding. The main background is a very detailed track plan, with notations and also 3 vignettes of important aspects of the hump yard system. There are quite a lot of details about how the system worked and how much traffic passed through the yards. The area had a long railway history, with the new hump yard dating back to 1929, built on the site of an old yard. The small map insert shows the basics of the railway system that Whitemoor Yard was connected into, and looks to be around 1951.
